A startling epilogue to "Throne of Atlantis"! With the secrets of Atlantis revealed, Aquaman is confronted by a horrible myth from Atlantis's past that's connected to his own. Plus: Mera confronts a longtime enemy.

Synopsis

Aquaman fights against understandable distrust from humans and Atlanteans alike as he attempts to ease into his role as King.

Summary

Off the coast of Greenland, whalers have killed a number of whales when the Sea Devils arrive to disrupt their actions. The whalers start to fire up an Atlantean weapon when Aquaman arrives and destroys it. After a tense confrontation, Dane Dorrance is injured by an Atlantean soldier and the whaling operation is broken up.

Cyborg alerts Aquaman that Amanda Waller, the U.S. government's liaison with the Justice League, wants to talk with him. Aquaman and Waller have a chat about Atlantis, lost Atlantean weapons, the fate of Orm and Mera. Waller alerts someone that Mera is alone.

Off the coast of Boston, somebody is scavenging Atlantean weapons.

In Amnesty Bay, Mera is arrested while buying groceries.

Returning to the location of the whaling, Aquaman apologizes to the surviving whale and promises the sea life that he will not fail them again. However, his message awakes something that was sleeping in the Antarctic.

Comments

This issue features a 1:25 B&W variant cover by Paul Pelletier and Art Thibert.

The Sea Devils are about to get killed by the whalers, but Dane still yells at Aquaman and calls him a terrorist even after Aquaman saves him. Dane reveals that two members of his team died while trying to rescue people during the Atlantean invasion.

Waller tells Aquaman that the ocean floor has been picked clean of Atlantean weaponry and those same weapons are now showing up, being used by criminals, all around the world. Waller also tells Aquaman that the death penalty is still on the table for Orm, and that the world is refusing to recognize Atlantis as a nation.

Mera's previous problems with the law have caught up to her. They sent at least four officers, with riot gear, to catch her while she's shopping.
