The critically-acclaimed adventures of Aquaman continue with "Death of a King." Unfolding out of the events of "Throne of Atlantis" comes a mystery that sends Aquaman to the ends of the Earth to solve an ancient murder - one that will reveal a horrific truth about Arthur Curry and threaten those closest to him today. Plus, Mera has a quest of her own involving a long-forgotten adversary of Aquaman.

Synopsis

Aquaman uses his armies to gather up lost Atlantean weaponry, unaware that a bigger threat is on the horizon.

Summary

In Antarctica, the awakened thing kills two researchers.

Atlanteans have scoured the world, searching for stolen Atlantean weapons and retrieving them. In the process, they attempt to follow Aquaman's orders and not kill. Returning to Atlantis with some weapons, Aquaman meets with Tula, Orm's brother, who asks about what will happen to him. Aquaman assures her that he will protect Orm. In turn, she advises Aquaman to speak with Vulko about finding those responsible for taking weaponry.

In Amnesty Bay, Mera becomes irritated with police paperwork and threats of incarceration.

Aquaman goes to Vulko and learns that he should be after the Scavenger.

Meanwhile, the Scavenger wants to be captured by Atlanteans. He tells his crew he has a new plan with a bigger payoff.

Tula tells Murk that Aquaman has assured her that he will protect Orm. Murk tells Tula that they need to free Orm themselves.

Mera starts to leave the police station, but an old school friend of Arthur's convinces her to return and deal with it. As Mera surrenders again, the police and Mera are attacked by the Dead King.

Comments

This issue features a 1:25 B&W variant cover by Paul Pelletier.

Tula is identified as Orm's sister. They both had the same father. Tula is leader of The Drift, a unit of the Atlantean army that works in secrecy.

Vulko continues to be totally unapologetic that he started the war. The keeper of the prisons, Urn, tells Arthur that three guards died when the missile hit.

Mera mentions that she has a dog to feed. I hope Jennifer remembers to feed Salty while she's away.

Characters: Pat and Jacob (researchers at Antarctic base); Murk; Atlantean soldiers; Tula; Urn (keeper of Atlantean prisons); Vulko; Scavenger (Peter Mortimer); Officer Watson; the Dead King
