A "FUTURES END" prelude! Spinning out of AQUAMAN, the King of Atlantis and his teammates find themselves targeted by an unknown foe that wants their Atlantean artifacts! Don't miss the start of this all-new series!
Synopsis
The Others gather to find out who is attacking them and why their artifacts no longer work.
Summary
Thousands of years ago, Atlan murders the Alchemist to get ten bars of the Gold of Legacy.
In New York, Dominick Torrez and his ghost patrol see veterans that they served with in line at a food bank. Torrez is attacked, and his manacles do not work as he expects them to work. He drives off his attackers anyway with the help of his ghost patrol.
In Brazil, Ya'wara has killed a poacher and attempts to use the globe to teleport. It doesn't work, so she takes out the rest of the poachers "the hard way".
In the Ghost Lands, Sky speaks with an ancestor who is concerned about her fate as long as she holds the Seal of Clarity. When she leaves the Ghost Lands, she's immediately attacked and pulls her attackers into the Ghost Lands with her. She finds out they are after the artifacts and contacts Aquaman to warn him.
In the Mediterranean Sea, the Operative is on a mission, but his key does not work. He's still upset when it is stolen from him. Aquaman arrives in time to stop the theft and recover the key. The two decide to gather the Others.
In Trezygstan, their enemy bemoans the failure of its units to acquire the artifacts.
In the Living Room, the group discusses why the artifacts seem to have lost power. Aquaman explains the history of the items, and how Atlan used them. He theorizes that because they are apart, they are losing power. While they talk, the plane is attacked and a wing is blown off.
In Iran, Kahina's sister Sayeh is kidnapped by the same forces that went after the Atlantean artifacts.
Comments
This issue features a 1:25 variant cover by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund.
Paul Norris is given credit for creating Aquaman, while Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis and Joe Prado are given credit for creating The Others.
Atlan's full story is told in Aquaman #24, where the forging of the artifacts is given a couple of panels. This version tells where he got the materials to make them from. It's worth noting that Atlan was originally a man trying to unite various people. In this single page appearance he seems to regret his efforts, since they led to the death of his family and his banishment.
In Ya'wara's last appearance, she betrayed the Others. But she's still part of the group and comes when everyone is called.
Kahina died in her first appearance, but now we meet her husband and sister. Her sister is apparently very aware of the events of Future's End, perhaps because she's a seer like her sister?
