Aquaman must reunite with The Others to investigate whether or not their recently deceased member Vostok has returned from the dead. If he has, he is definitely not the same Vostok they remember...

Synopsis

The Atlantean helmet is stolen and the Others have to battle a sorceress to get it back.

Summary

Aquaman follows malformed sea creatures to an atoll in the China Sea where the Operative has landed the Living Room. Aaron, the Operative's grandson, is secretly meeting with Sky Alchesay there, much to the Operative's annoyance. The creatures attack, with Aquaman following close to try to stop them, while Aaron is arguing with his grandfather.

The Operative recognizes that the attack is a feint and heads back to the plane only to watch flying monkeys steal Vostok's mask. Aaron is badly hurt in the attack and Sky takes him to the Ghost Lands to help save him. There they learn that a sorceress is behind the attack.

Aquaman summons Ya'wara, who was stopping poachers from cutting down trees. Aquaman and Ya'wara go get Prisoner of War. Gathered, the Others pinpoint the helmet's location in Hong Kong at the home of a wealthy collector, Madame Xan.

In Hong Kong, Madame Xan attempts to use the helmet but it rejects her. It a fit of anger she kills her flying monkeys and sets a trap for the Others.

Each of the Others has a vision in which they are offered the ability to help save the world from corruption and pollution by Madame Xan, who claims to be Morgaine le Fay. The Others fight her, but Ya'wara was swayed by Xan's argument and betrays the Others. She is defeated when Aquaman defeats Xan with his trident, but consumed with guilt, Ya'wara flees with the orb.

Sky takes the others back through the Ghost Lands, picking up a recovered Aaron on the way.

Comments

The story is completely different from the original solicit and the original cover art. Apparently there was a different tale in the works before this one came about. I'm curious what it would have been like.

Sky and Aaron like each other, but both have overly protective guardians and so have difficulties making friends. Worse, Sky is told by Father Usan in the Ghost Lands that she will lose the ability to travel to the Ghost Lands if she decides that she wants to be with Aaron.

Ya'wara's origin is described for the first time. She was in a plane crash as a small child and was the only survivor. The Forest Mother protected her and in return Ya'wara protects the forest from poachers.

Madame Xan offers Prisoner of War freedom from the ghost squad and offers the Operative a younger body.

Madame Xan wanted to use the helmet to escape the Earth, which she thinks is being destroyed by humanity. When the helmet doesn't work, she decides to destroy humanity to save the Earth.
