Variety Reports...
Entourage Floats Faux Feature.
Sadly, although the article is new, the quotes it uses do not indicate some sea change in Hollywood's thinking about the movie. PAD wrote the quote on his website in August of last year, and the other quote from staff members of Entourage were made last year as well. The only news in the article is in regards to the fake ad in Variety, and even that was reported elsewhere widely. I wouldn't put a lot of hope into this one, but it is fun to see.
Many thank to Joe Mello on the Aquaman list for pointing out the article.
"Aquaman," it seems, has opened the floodgates. The article goes on to say that some people were fooled by the ad, and that Cameron has now been encouraged by his fans and supporters, and even some "industry watchers", to make the film for real. Even Peter David got in the act, reports Variety, quoting him as saying "Now all we need is for Cameron to REALLY make an Aquaman film and we're good to go."
James Cameron hasn't directed a major movie in nearly a decade, so it's understandable there was some excitement when an eye-catching two-page ad ran in the June 16 Daily Variety touting the record $116 million opening weekend of his latest epic, the comicbook adaptation "Aquaman."
Except, of course, it was all made up.
