Blue Suit Aquaman
The modern age Aquaman sprang into action wearing a new camouflage suit provided by Vulko to protect him from his own angry people.  While he shared much of his history with the Silver Age Aquaman, his life took several dramatic turns.  The most dramatic of these would be the apparent death of his wife, Mera, and her disappearance into another dimension.
While he only wore the camouflage suit for one adventure, he was a new character after it.  He continued into the "mullet" years, when he grew more and more concerned about the damage the surface population was causing to the oceans.  After a battle with the city of Tritonis, Vulko gave Aquaman possession of the Atlantis Chronicles.  Reading them connected the dots for Aquaman and changed him forever.
Harpoon Aquaman
After learning the truth of his heritage, Aquaman was called on an adventure by his one-time sidekick Aqualad.  The two of them ran into Charybdis, who stole Aquaman's powers but was not satisfied with the limitations on them.  Aquaman's left hand was eaten by piranhas in an ensuing battle.  Aquaman replaced the hand with a harpoon that had killed one of his friends, then later with an upgraded model from S.T.A.R. labs.  He changed his look further by dropping his scalemail shirt and wearing a galerus and manica on his right arm.
Mystic Aquaman
After being banished from Atlantis after the events of the Obsidian Age, Aquaman threw away his harpoon and accepted the call of the Lady of the Lake to become her Waterbearer.  In return, she gave him a new left hand made of mystic water.  The hand has healing powers and links Aquaman to his fate.

The Modern Age Aquaman is actually a series of character changes that started with the 1986 mini-series and progressed until the Blackest Night took Aquaman and rebooted him back to a Silver Age origin. To keep track of each of these versions, this page will list them by costume changes.
