SUMMARY:

When the aquarium is closed, Old Pete takes over the care of the larger fish near his seaside home, causing problems for a couple of crooks.

OVERVIEW:

When the city Aquarium is torn down, Old Pete asks that the fish that can't be moved to the Zoo be released near his home so he can continue to care for them. Living on the beach, he takes care of the fishes that are unable to make it in the wild. Some land speculators don't like him living there, however, since the presence of Pete's large fish scare off potential investors. They decide to kill Pete, but Aquaman saves him and then helps his fish to learn how to live in the wild.

COMMENTS:

Much of this plot revolves around the fact that the beach is rapidly eroding. The land speculators want to sell property that will be washed away in only a few years. Old Pete's cabin is also in danger due to the erosion, a fact that Aquaman uses to defeat the bad guys.

Lots of types of fish show up in this story. It's enough to inspire a person to hit the books to find out what they are.

Aquaman isn't the only character who spends time in the water in this issue. The bad guys get dunked twice, which is a bad track record for any Aquaman foe in the Golden Age.

Throughout this story, Aquaman seems to have a worried look on his face. His expression never appears to change.

CONCLUSION:

A silly story that packs in a lot of information.
