Synopsis

Aquaman makes an attempt to stop the Atlantean invasion but is thwarted by the League's impatience.

Summary

Jim Gordon and Bullock light the Bat-Signal as they are overwhelmed and drowning, but Aquaman rescues them. In the meantime, Mera is attempting to push the water back out to sea, but nearly passes out from the effort. She urges Aquaman to let the League know what the full battle plan of Atlantis is.

Vulko wakes up and tells Superman to find Aquaman.

Aquaman tries to figure out what happened, and realizes that the missiles must have hit Atlantis. Batman interprets Aquaman's musings as defending Atlantis. They are interrupted by an attack on Batman. The pair arrive at the satellite to met with Vulko, Superman and Wonder Woman. Vulko tells Aquaman the incident with the aircraft carrier was planned, in order to start a war.

The Trench emerge from their prison.

Variant sketch cover

Aquaman asks to be allowed to stop the war, Batman says he has one chance. Aquaman confronts Orm as he's about to sink Boston and starts to talk with him, but Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman interrupt. Aquaman gets annoyed at them and attacks Batman.

Comments

Aquaman tells Batman that he turned his back on the surface world when he first became king of Atlantis, but the formation of the Justice League through the attack by Darkseid tore his loyalties away.

Aquaman admits to making the invasion plans with his brother. He says he was in a very different state of mind at the time.

Despite promising to give him some time, the superhero trinity interrupts Aquaman before he can even get started explaining the situation to Orm. Aquaman is naturally rather annoyed at them for not giving him the promised amount of time. Batman comes off as a complete jerk.
