Fourteen years ago, Arthur and Diana meet when Diana goes out to explore the oceans and is attacked by a baby Kraken.  Arthur saves her, and they decide to marry to unite the Atlanteans with the Amazons.  There is a bit of objection to the union on both sides, and an assassin manages to kill Queen Hippolyta as the ceremony starts.  Garth discovers the assassin, the Amazon Artemis dressed in his own armor.  He learns that she is allied with Orm before she defeats him and declares him the assassin.  He is killed by Penthesilea before he can tell Arthur what really happened.

As a counter, Aquaman's origin in the Flashpoint universe is told.  It diverges from his Silver Age origin when a pregnant Atlanna is dragged back to Atlantis by her father's troops.  Aquaman is abandoned on Mercy Reef after his mother dies in childbirth and is raised by his father thanks to the sea life returning him to his father's home.  At age thirteen, the Atlanteans return, killing Tom Curry and taking Arthur back to Atlantis to be king after his grandfather's death.  Because Tom tried to protect him from the sea, denying him his heritage, and because he lost his father earlier, Arthur in this universe becomes a hard and brutal man.

As seen in the first issue of this mini and in Flashpoint #2, Aquaman and Orm have attacked Deathstroke and his ship. Aquaman kills a number of the crew (including drowning Clayface rather dramatically) but doesn't feel like finishing off the entire crew, and leaves.

Fourteen years ago, we see young Arthur and Diana making the choices that lead to them marrying, as Diana recovers in Atlantis.
One year ago, the Amazons hold a funeral while Arthur makes a show of force as he comes to explain himself and try to repair the damage the assassination has done.  As he approaches Diana, before he can even speak, an attack starts on both parties.  While Arthur continues to try to make peace, Diana slashes him across the face and the Amazons unleash the volcano under Themyscira to destroy it along with the Atlanteans.
Eight months ago, Aquaman is trying to decide whether or not to use his secret weapon, but Mera goes off with a troop of Atlanteans and attacks Diana just as she recruits Tara Markov.  Diana beheads Mera and sends her body back to Arthur as a message.  Aquaman uses his weapon to try to sink New Themyscira.

Deathstroke, on a ship in the ocean with a crew of people we would recognize as villains, discovers that he's gone into Aquaman's territory, and is attacked by Aquaman and Ocean Master. In the meantime, Barry Allen begins to remember the past of this timeline, and realizes that Aquaman sank Europe a year ago in his war against Wonder Woman.
