There are parts of the ocean even Aquaman should not enter. Now Aquaman and Mera must descend into uncharted territory: the smoky black crevice at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, home of the cannibalistic creatures known only as the Trench. One last secret behind these loathsome creatures will be revealed as "The Trench" thunders toward its bloodcurdling conclusion!

Synopsis

Aquaman and Mera locate the home of the Trench and bring back survivors from the attack on Beachrock.

Summary

While hunting for the Trench in the mid-Atlantic trench, Aquaman and Mera find an ancient Atlantean vessel from before the sinking.

The pair then find inbred Trench young swimming near them, and follow the path to the home of the Trench. The see the queen and the leader of the Trench, then find a wall of cocoons. Aquaman decides that they need to bring the entire wall up to save the people in them. They break the wall, which is also part of the Atlantean vessel, free and start to take it to the surface.

Aquaman fights off the Trench while Mera lifts the wall, but when he's attacked by the queen of the Trench he triggers a volcanic eruption by throwing his trident into a vent. He then breaks off an undersea wall, sealing the creatures in.

Once on the surface, Aquaman helps break open the cocoons. Most of the people survived, a military man tells Aquaman that only two were already dead, dozens more were alive.

Aquaman and Mera return to the lighthouse and Deputy Wilson brings the dog to them. He explains that the dog's owner, Janet Reed, didn't make it.

Comments

The final page is a preview about the sinking of Atlantis.

One of the survivors, a young boy, tells Aquaman that he's his favorite super-hero. The military guy says that he still doesn't like Aquaman.

Deputy Wilson suggests naming Janet Reed's dog "Aquadog" and tells Mera that the dog doesn't know how to swim. The Aquaman Shrine had a poll and named the dog Salty which may be his official name now.
