"Throne of Atlantis" continues from this month's Justice League #16! Torn between Ocean Master and the League in this penultimate chapter of "Throne of Atlantis," Aquaman is pushed toward an impossible choice! The monstrous Trench are back — and they're hungry!

Synopsis

Cyborg makes a sacrifice to save the rest of the team, and the traitor to Atlantis is finally revealed.

Summary

Cyborg gives up his remaining lung so he'll be able to survive underwater (or in space). His father notices he is processing a file to determine who sent the missiles at Atlantis.

Vulko and Dr. Shin get acquainted in the Justice League satellite.

Aquaman breaks free of the shell Orm put him in and quickly finds Batman. The pair figure out where they are as a Trench attacks.

In Boston, the reserves are battling the Atlanteans. Hawkman tries to get his fellow heroes to be a bit more bloodthirsty.

Cyborg comes out of surgery and he and Mera go to find Aquaman.

Under water, Batman and Aquaman discover evidence that whoever controls the scepter can also control the Trench. They find Superman and Wonder Woman and are attacked by the Trench, and rescued just in time by Mera and Cyborg, who followed Batman's communicator signal. They quickly defeat the few Trench around, but Aquaman realizes there must be more.

In Boston, the Trench attack the Atlantean soldiers. Cyborg finishes processing the key file, and Aquaman realizes that Vulko has been behind the entire attack all along.

Comments

This issue features a 1:25 B&W variant wraparound cover.

Batman actually apologizes to Aquaman, sort of. Only after Aquaman expresses regret at trying to reason with Orm. He might have succeeded with reason if Batman hadn't interrupted.

Vulko wants Arthur to be king, and started the whole battle just to show everyone who is better. Or something like that. It was a well thought-out plan, but very nasty. Living in Norway clearly didn't do much for Vulko's state of mind.

Characters: Silas Stone, Dr. Morrow, Cyborg, Dr. Shin, Vulko, Batman, The Trench, Hawkman, Firestorm, Black Lightning, Vixen, Atlantean soldiers, Black Canary, Element Woman, Atom, Orm, Mera, Superman, Wonder Woman

Locations: Star Labs, JL Satellite, Mid-Atlantic Trench (Dark Waters), Boston
