Hostess® Ad: Twinkies and Kelp

Appeared in: Batman #280, Detective Comics #464, Superboy #220

Writer: Unknown

OVERVIEW

Aquaman and Mera spot a rocketship headed for the kelp farms of Atlantis. Aquaman rushes to save the farms, and enters the rocketship to confront the attackers. The occupants of the craft, though, come in peace! Their leader is Colonel Kelp, who has come to introduce Atlantis to the wonderfully golden spongy cream filled taste of delicious Hostess® Twinkies®. His mission succeeds, but his rocketship gets stuck in the... groan... kelp.

COMMENTS

What kind of a name is Colonel Kelp?

This is probably the first Aquaman Hostess® ad, as he's not familiar with Hostess® products, but then again, continuity wasn't a strong point in the ads. Twinkies does not have a registered trademark sign in this ad, unlike all the others. In fact, every time it appears, it is in quotation marks.

Mera shows up but doesn't get a speaking part.

CONCLUSION

An absolutely pointless tale.
