Note: This was a four issue mini-series February-May 1986 which, although sucessful in terms of reader reaction to the new costume and the slick combination of art and story, failed to generate a regular series.

Note: What this special was about is beyond me... I read it I don't understand it...It is not even mentioned in the history of the character when they reviewed his appearances in the following year's mini-series.

Note: this was a special originally intended to be a part of the SECRET ORIGIN series DC had running at the time. This was to be the jumping-on point for the GIFFEN mini-series due later on in the year. Actually after reading it I believe PAD left the origin pretty much the way it is... see TIME AND TIDE for reference.
Editor's Note: I have to agree, the PAD origin seems to respect Legend of Aquaman. Recently, PAD mentioned on his newsgroup alt.fan.peter-david, that because "Legend of Aquaman" was published mere months before Atlantis Chronicles, he felt like he should respect the story in it. -Laura

Note: this series has some of the best Curt Swan artwork I have seen... I am not a Curt Swan fan, I did not like his Superman stuff or any of his work otherwise ...however this was an extremely good example of what his strengths are as an artist (anatomy, facial expressions). The series was cover dated June through October of 1989 again it was to be the springboard for an ongoing series but, even though fan reaction was good, no series developed. However.....

Note: this is a real pinacle in comic book writing. I know a lot of people who, after reading it, can't believe that it was a comic book...
The story can actually fall chronologically in the Aquaman series as a flashback of Aquaman reading it right after AQUAMAN(91-92) and before TIME AND TIDE #1.

Note: this series was cover dated December 1991 through December 1992 and was a fairly popular success... however the powers that be really wanted to bring Aquaman back in a big way so they put the series on hiatus while the new creative team was being set. One year later......

Note: The cartoony style of the art in this series fit the Silver Age feel of the writing, and the combination made for a book both enjoyable and nostalgic. This was the real jumping on point for PAD, and the start of the 1994 series...
